Investigates how entrained particles affect jet behaviors in slurry systems, indicating important operational insights.
In fluidized bed reactors, the breakup of feed jet affects chemical reactions, particle aggregation and reactor operation. For slurry jets containing liquid hydrocarbons, which entrain particles and undergo intense evaporation, the breakup behaviors are complex. Investigating the modulation effects of entrained particles on the morphology and turbulence characteristics of slurry jets requires simultaneously obtaining gas–liquid–solid three‐phase information. Therefore, this study simultaneously employs shadowgraph technique and schlieren technique. The results indicate that when the temperature is within the boiling range of jet, particles enhance fluctuations and breakup of jet, promote generation and dispersion of droplet, as well as improve rotational, divergent, and convergent motions of the flow field. When the temperature exceeds the boiling range, the jet undergoes intense atomization and evaporation, leading to strong convective motion, which weakens the rotational, divergent, and convergent motions in the central region of the jet while enhancing such motions at the jet periphery.
