Modelling approaches for estimating vaccine effectiveness of consecutive SARS-CoV-2 variant sublineages in the absence of study-specific genetic sequencing data, VEBIS hospital network, Europe, 2023/24
Key Points
This research aims to estimate vaccine effectiveness (VE) for consecutive SARS-CoV-2 variant sublineages without specific genetic sequencing data.
Utilized two modeling approaches for VE estimation.
Compared results with traditional VE estimation methods.
Analyzed data from the VEBIS hospital network in Europe.
Both modeling approaches yielded VE estimates comparable to established methods.
The VPM approach provided valid VE estimates even with low sample sizes.
Abstract
Both proposed approaches produced similar VE estimates to those from well-known methods. The VPM could also provide VE estimates when the validation techniques were limited by low sample size.
