Sanskrit language is the cornerstone of Indian culture. It is not only an ancient language, but the mother of Indian knowledge, philosophy, spirituality, medicine, mathematics and astronomy. In the present era, various efforts are being made for the revival of Sanskrit, with the objective of preserving and enhancing the Indian cultural heritage. The present paper analyzes the historical importance, scientific basis, social utility and contemporary relevance of Sanskrit language.
