This comparative study analyzes urban identity themes in contemporary African literature from Guinea, suggesting a rich depiction of evolving urban experiences.
Urbanization in contemporary Africa is a dynamic process shaped by cultural, economic, and social factors. Guinea, with its unique blend of traditional and modern influences, has seen significant urban growth over recent decades. The research employs a qualitative content analysis approach, examining selected contemporary African literature from Guinea that deals with urban settings. A team of scholars will conduct thematic coding and thematic mapping to analyse the textual data. A key finding is the prevalence of narratives centred around the struggle for identity in an increasingly cosmopolitan environment, where traditional values often clash with modern influences. This theme appears across multiple works from different authors. The study concludes that contemporary African literature from Guinea offers a rich tapestry of urban experiences, reflecting both challenges and opportunities within the evolving urban landscape of the country. Future research could benefit from an interdisciplinary approach, incorporating perspectives from sociology, anthropology, and geography to provide a more comprehensive understanding of urban life in Guinea.
