Simulated systolic insufficiency reduces LVEF versus a healthy heart model.
Why the study?
Cardiovascular diseases are a leading cause of global mortality, and modeling systems help in understanding, controlling, and preventing cardiovascular abnormalities.
An equivalent electronic circuit model using MATLAB/Simulink can simulate the hemodynamic changes, such as reduced ejection fraction and peak aortic flow, seen in systolic insufficiency.
May aid clinician insight into systolic HF hemodynamics via simulation; extends research by validating equivalent electronic circuit models.
The cardiovascular diseases are one of the most common death in the whole world. The modelling systems are useful for knowing, controlling, and preventing cardiovascular abnormalities. Lumped models are among the existing mathematical simulations widely used to model the operation of the cardiovascular system. In this study, we have used MATLAB software and, Simulink toolbox to present an electronic circuit of the cardiovascular system, which is able to show the normal operation of the system. Then, we studied the systolic insufficiency by variation of the circuit elements. Our results showed that the left ventricular ejection fraction, during systolic insufficiency, was significantly reduced compared to the healthy heart. Moreover, the peak aortic flow and the ejection fraction were also decreased.
