Shows Brahmi Avleha and Nasya reduce ADHD symptoms in children, indicating new Ayurvedic treatment options.
Introduction: Attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is one of the most common neurobehavioral and neurodevelopmental disorders of childhood, characterized by inattention, hyperactivity, impulsivity, and impaired academic performance. Conventional management has limitations, highlighting the need for safe and effective alternative therapies. Brahmi ( Bacopa monnieri ), known for its Medhya (nootropic) properties in Ayurveda, may offer therapeutic benefits in ADHD. Aim: To evaluate the efficacy of Brahmi Avleha along with Brahmi Taila Pratimarsha Nasya in the management of ADHD and to assess improvement in school performance among children aged 6–15 years. Materials and Methods: The present clinical study was conducted on children diagnosed with ADHD attending the Outpatient and Inpatient Departments of Bal Roga at Sanjeevani Ayurved Hospital, Postgraduate Institute of Ayurveda, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Rajasthan Ayurved University, Jodhpur, Rajasthan. Selected patients aged 6–15 years were administered Brahmi Avleha orally along with Brahmi Taila Pratimarsha Nasya for a specified treatment duration. Clinical assessment was carried out using standard subjective parameters of ADHD before and after treatment. Results: The intervention showed a statistically significant reduction in the core symptoms of ADHD, including inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. Notable improvement was also observed in behavioral responses and school performance parameters following treatment. Conclusion: Brahmi Avleha in combination with Brahmi Taila Pratimarsha Nasya was found to be effective in reducing the symptoms of ADHD and improving functional and academic performance in children aged 6–15 years. The therapy appears to be a safe and promising Ayurvedic management option for ADHD.
