NURS-02. Navigating clinical challenges: pediatric nurse practitioners and nurses in the care of adult neuro-oncology patients on clinical trials

Abstract The involvement of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (PNPs) and nurses into the care of adult neuro-oncology patients enrolled in clinical trials at pediatric institutions highlights critical opportunities for cross-disciplinary collaboration in pediatric neuro-oncology. While PNPs bring specialized expertise in managing complex pediatric neuro-oncology care, extending this expertise to adult patients introduces unique challenges, including legal (state-by-state), clinical, and operational complexities. A national group of pediatric nurse practitioners and nurses has reviewed strategies to address these challenges and foster alignment between pediatric and adult neuro-oncology teams to deliver seamless, patient-centered care, and have developed recommendations to optimize clinical trial management for adult neuro-oncology patients within pediatric institutions. We will share insights and provide actionable recommendations to advance collaboration in pediatric neuro-oncology. By fostering alignment across institutions, leveraging the expertise of PNPs and pediatric nurses, and building robust interdisciplinary networks, we can enhance the quality of care for adult neuro-oncology patients being treated at pediatric institutions and improve clinical trial outcomes in this specialized and rapidly evolving field.
