Molecular study establishes treatment for Geopora, revealing ecology and morphology of new species.
Based on molecular and morphological study of hypogeous collections of Geopora coming from different parts of Europe, a new treatment of this genus is proposed. The reinstatement of G. schackii, with the designation of a reference collection, is proposed and six new species are introduced, namely G. cylindrospora, G. crispa, G. megaspora, G. pubescens, G. skottyana and G. victoris. Details on the morphology of these species, phenology and ecology of each species are given, as well as detailed illustrations. A key to European hypogeous species of Geopora is proposed.
