Demonstrates a novel topology for improving energy storage efficiency in high-voltage systems, suggesting enhanced reliability and reduced voltage stress.
This paper proposes a novel topology for high‐voltage solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery energy storage systems (BESS) that effectively addresses the challenge of achieving the required power and voltage for efficient energy storage while minimizing harmful high‐voltage stress on cells. Excessive voltage exposure can lead to accelerated degradation and increase the risk of electrical faults. The study introduces a scalable and straightforward solution utilizing isolation power transformers (IPTs) in a cascaded configuration. This approach enables the integration of low‐voltage cells into high‐voltage applications while avoiding the drawbacks associated with traditional series‐parallel cell configurations. Key advantages of the topology include its simplicity, scalability, and significant ability to reduce voltage stress, leading to enhanced system efficiency and reliability. Simulation results, along with experimental data from a two‐module laboratory test bench, validate the effectiveness of the presented topology, demonstrating its potential for high‐voltage solar PV and battery energy storage applications.
