Comprehensive checklist documents fauna and floral associations in Türkiye, highlighting biodiversity significance.
This study presents the first comprehensive checklist of the Anthophorinae fauna (Hymenoptera: Apoidea: Apidae) in Türkiye. For each species, data on local distribution, flight periods, and associated floral records are verified and provided. The distributions of the species are illustrated on maps. A total of 61 species belonging to three genera were documented: Amegilla (7 species), Anthophora (49 species), and Habropoda (5 species). Türkiye hosts more than half of the Anthophora and Amegilla species known from the entire European continent, and its Habropoda diversity exceeds that of Europe, emphasizing the country’s key role in the biodiversity and biogeography of the Anthophorinae subfamily. The study suggests that two Habropoda species (H. annae, H. schafelneri) and two Anthophora species (A. lydia, A. subaequa) are endemic to Türkiye. Observations indicate distinct flight periods among genera, with Amegilla species active mainly in summer, Anthophora from spring to late summer, and Habropoda from late spring to early summer. Floral associations include a wide range of families such as Asteraceae, Boraginaceae, Fabaceae and Lamiaceae.
