Correlational analysis examines academic stress in secondary school students, indicating its connection with personality traits.
Academic stress is a common psychological state of student’s life. There are five dimensions in big five personality traits. The primary aim of this study is to explore the relationship between academic stress and these two dimensions (Agreeableness and Neuroticism) of personality traits. In total, 327 samples using stratified random sampling was drown for this study. The data were collected through the Ghoshal-Banerjee Academic Stress Scale (GBASC-2019). This scale was constructed by the researcher and it is a four-point Likert-type scale. The Second one was the Personality Big Five Inventory, which was an adapted and translated version of the Goldberg Big Five Inventory. A correlational design was used to conduct the study. Data were analysed by the Pearson product-moment correlation method and multiple regression analysis through SPSS 23.0. Result reveals that there was a low positive (.13) significant correlation between academic stress and agreeableness trait, and on the other side low negative (-.32) statistically significant correlation was found between neuroticism trait and academic Stress. Besides, multiple regression analysis demonstrates that the agreeableness trait was not statistically significant / predictor of academic stress, but the neuroticism trait was statistically significant / predictor of academic Stress. The findings of this study may support the parents, teachers and counselors etc.
