Demonstrates a novel automotive radar system that adapts detection range in varying environments, indicating broad application potential.
This paper presents the development and implementation of an automotive radar system. The proposed radar system comprised two commercial RF chips and an MCU, realizing a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) configuration through independent control of transmit and receive channels. The automotive radar system operated in the 76~77 GHz frequency band and provided a capability switch between long-range radar (LRR) and mid-range radar (MRR) modes through waveform reconfiguration within a single hardware platform. This feature allowed the dynamic adjustment of the detection range and resolution according to various driving environments. The performance of the developed radar was verified through on-road tests in the LRR and MRR modes.
