Decolonizing African Art History in Ethiopia involves reevaluating traditional narratives about art and culture to better represent contemporary perspectives. This study employs a mixed-methods approach combining archival research with interviews of contemporary artists and scholars. Themes of traditional vs. modern art are prominent in the historical records examined, indicating a need to reframe these categories. The decolonization process requires acknowledging multiple cultural influences and integrating them into art history education and discourse. Instituting workshops that incorporate diverse artistic traditions and histories is recommended for fostering a more inclusive understanding of Ethiopian art.
