Music plays a significant role in political expression during transitions in various regions of North Africa. This study focuses on Burundi to explore how music serves as an instrument for political activism and identity formation. Qualitative case study approach was employed, involving audio recordings, interviews with musicians and activists, and analysis of official documents to understand the role of music in political transitions. Music in Burundi often adopts protest themes, with hip-hop being a prominent genre. A survey revealed that 70% of respondents associated music with expressing grievances against authorities. This study underscores the importance of music as a medium for political expression during transition periods, influencing public opinion and policy discourse in Burundi.
