Action research shows mobile banking raised financial inclusion to 45% in rural communities, indicating significant benefits.
Mobile banking has emerged as a critical tool for financial inclusion in rural areas of developing countries. An action research approach was employed, involving qualitative interviews with community members and quantitative data collection through questionnaires distributed across selected villages. Mobile banking usage showed a significant increase from 20% to 45% among surveyed households over the study period, indicating improved financial access for rural populations. The findings underscore the potential of mobile banking in bridging the gap between urban and rural financial services in Kenya. Further expansion of mobile banking infrastructure is recommended alongside targeted educational campaigns to maximise its benefits across the country.
