This research article investigates the ecological consciousness present in selected short stories of R.K. Narayan through the theoretical framework of ecocriticism. The study explores how Narayan’s narratives reflect a harmonious relationship between human beings, animals, and the natural environment. By analysing specific texts, the article highlights the subtle ecological messages embedded within Narayan’s storytelling. The paper also situates Narayan’s works within the broader context of environmental ethics found in Indian philosophical traditions. Ancient Indian texts and cultural practices often emphasize respect for nature and the interconnectedness of all living beings. The article argues that Narayan’s literary vision resonates with these ecological principles, offering valuable insights into sustainable coexistence between humans and nature. This resource contributes to discussions in ecocritical literary studies, environmental humanities, and Indian cultural ecology, and is particularly useful for teaching literature from an environmental perspective
