Key Points

  • To develop a metamaterial-based circularly polarized antenna for 5G and Ultra-Wideband communication.
  • Design of circularly polarized antenna with tapered feed and split circular patch.
  • Incorporation of split ring resonator inscribed inside the patch and complementary etched on the ground.
  • Manufacturing on low-cost FR4 substrate and prototype verification through measurements.
  • Achieves measured impedance bandwidth of 3–14 GHz (132%).
  • Attains 3 dB axial-ratio bandwidth of 3.3–7 GHz (71.84%).
  • Enables simultaneous coverage of sub-6-GHz bands including 3.6 GHz and 5.8 GHz.
  • Exhibits Left-Hand Circular Polarization with a peak boresight gain of 3.66 dBic.

Abstract

The research article proposes a metamaterial inspired broadband circularly polarized antenna for 5G and ultrawideband communication .The antenna with tapered feed consist of splilt circular patch with split ring resonator(SRR) inscribed inside and complementary SRR etched on the ground plane . The proposed design achieves a measured impedance bandwidth of 3–14 GHz (132%) and 3 dB axial-ratio bandwidth of 3.3–7 GHz (71.84%), enabling simultaneous coverage of sub-6-GHz communication bands (including 3.6 GHz and 5.8 GHz) and Ultra-Wideband (UWB) spectrum. The antenna exhibits Left-Hand Circular Polarization with a peak boresight gain of 3.66 dBic. The antenna is manufactured on low cost FR4 substrate and measurements are done to verify the accuracy of the prototype.
