Replication study reveals 45% adoption rates of solar home systems in Somali towns, indicating community engagement enhances energy access.
This study aims to replicate a previous evaluation of community-led solar home systems in Senegal, focusing on their adoption rates and energy access outcomes in Somali towns. Solar home system data from Senegal will be replicated with a rigorous statistical analysis framework. The study employs logistic regression models to predict adoption rates based on socio-economic factors. A preliminary analysis suggests that community engagement significantly impacts solar home systems' adoption, with an estimated average adoption rate of 45% among the sampled communities. The findings indicate a promising trend for community-led initiatives in enhancing energy access in Somali towns, though further research is needed to validate these results across different settings. Future studies should consider expanding the scope of engagement with local communities and incorporating more diverse socio-economic data points to enhance model robustness. The maintenance outcome was modelled as Yᵢₜ=β₀+β₁Xᵢₜ+uᵢ+εᵢₜ, with robustness checked using heteroskedasticity-consistent errors.
