Panel data analysis reveals varying cost-efficiency in research stations, highlighting optimization in resource allocation.
Field research stations in Nigeria are crucial for environmental conservation but their operational costs and efficiency have not been thoroughly evaluated. Panel data analysis was employed to assess the cost-efficiency of these stations. The study utilised regression models with robust standard errors for inference. The findings indicate that the average cost per unit of research output varied significantly across different stations (e.g., $120-$250 per publication), suggesting room for optimization in resource allocation. This study provides a rigorous framework to evaluate and enhance the operational efficiency of field research stations, contributing to more effective conservation efforts. Implementing cost-saving measures such as energy-efficient technologies and reducing administrative overheads could significantly improve station efficiency.
