Acute ischemic stroke study investigates end-tidal CO2 effects on cerebral autoregulation and outcomes, suggesting clinical implications.
Highlights Acute ischemic stroke patients are more likely to be spontaneously hypocapnic. End-tidal CO2 (EtCO2) has a significant effect on cerebral autoregulation (dCA). We investigated associations between EtCO2, dCA parameters and clinical outcomes. Hypocapnia at <24h post-stroke was associated with improved dCA. Prolonged hypocapnia (24-72h) was associated with poorer clinical outcome.
