Abstract

The Megawatt Charging System (MCS) represents a revolutionary technology advancement in electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, particularly for heavy-duty and commercial vehicles. This research investigates the technical, economic, and future implications of implementing MCS of up to 3.75 MW charging which is significantly higher than current standards. The study examines the infrastructure requirements, such as grid integration, thermal, safety protocols, and communication standards necessary for effective operation. It also explores the potentiality for MCS to facilitate rapid charging solutions that can reduce downtime for commercial fleets, thereby enhancing operational efficiency. Importantly, this research serves as a valuable resource for future generations of EV designers, equipping them with the insights needed to harness and integrate this new technology effectively. The various case studies and pilot projects in heavy-duty road transport is analyzed, and furthermore it extensions to marine and aerospace applications of MCS. Finally, these findings aim to provide a comprehensive framework for advancing high-power charging technologies where it supports the transition to a sustainable electric transportation ecosystem.
