Workshops enhance awareness and skills about gender-based violence in adolescent girls, suggesting community support is vital.
Gender-based violence remains a significant issue among adolescent girls in Lagos, Nigeria, with community support systems playing a crucial role in addressing this challenge. A mixed-methods approach was employed, including pre- and post-workshop surveys, focus group discussions, and interviews with participants and stakeholders. Participants reported a significant increase in their awareness about gender-based violence and improved interpersonal skills after the workshops. Community support systems were identified as essential for sustaining positive changes. The workshops effectively enhanced girls' knowledge and self-efficacy regarding gender-based violence, while community support was crucial for maintaining these improvements. Further research should focus on replicating this model in other communities and exploring long-term outcomes. Policy makers should integrate community-based interventions into existing programmes.
