In Kenya, libraries and archives play a crucial role in preserving and promoting African intellectual heritage. A qualitative approach was employed through interviews with librarians, archivists, and cultural heritage experts across various regions of Kenya. Data were analysed using thematic analysis. Libraries and archives are predominantly located in urban centers, with a significant proportion (60%) reporting limited resources for maintaining collections. There is a notable interest among users in accessing digital copies of rare materials, indicating the need for improved digitization efforts. The findings highlight the challenges faced by Kenyan libraries and archives in preserving African intellectual heritage, particularly in terms of funding and resource allocation. Increased government support is recommended to enhance infrastructure and resources. Additionally, a collaborative approach involving stakeholders from academia, cultural institutions, and private sectors should be encouraged for effective preservation efforts.
