Mixed-methods research shows agricultural adaptation strategies in Sahelian pastoralists, indicating resilience to climate change.
Sahelian pastoralist systems in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) face significant challenges due to climate variability and change. A mixed-methods approach combining qualitative interviews and quantitative survey data was used. Key informant interviews were conducted with 30 community leaders, while structured questionnaires were administered to 150 households. The analysis revealed that 72% of pastoralists reported adopting drought-resistant crop varieties, indicating a clear trend towards agricultural adaptation strategies in the region. Sahelian pastoralist systems in DRC have developed various adaptive measures, with a notable focus on incorporating climate-resilient crops into their farming practices. Government and non-governmental organizations should support capacity-building programmes to enhance farmers' access to drought-resistant seeds and water management technologies.
