New-type infrastructure projects (NIPs) aim to deliver intelligent and integrated public services, with their success relying not merely on the creation of infrastructure products but on the realization of project value. Project value is cocreated through stakeholder interactions but can also be codestroyed. Existing research mainly focuses on the positive aspects of project value creation while often overlooking the adverse impact of negative organizational behaviors. This study addresses this gap by exploring the widespread and detrimental value codestruction behavior in NIPs. Using a qualitative approach, 38 semistructured interviews were conducted with participants from diverse roles in NIPs. Through inductive analysis, the study reveals eight forms of value codestruction behavior categorized under social interaction and resource integration. The study further examines these behaviors across two dimensions, namely the interaction nature and the degree of technology involvement. The findings contribute to the theoretical understanding of value codestruction behavior in project management and provide practical insights for improving the governance of current and future NIPs.
