Exploratory study evaluates teacher quality in ethnic minority areas, suggesting mechanisms for improvement.
Conducting research on the comprehensive quality evaluation of college teachers in ethnic minority areas is essential for promoting the high-quality development of ethnic higher education. This study adopts the Competency Model to construct an evaluation index system, covering knowledge and skills, professional ethics, social roles, and personal traits. Using Guangxi University, a representative ethnic institution, as a case, we conducted an exploratory study on university teachers in ethnic minority areas. We determine the index weights through the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and conduct a comprehensive evaluation using the Cloud Model. The results show that due to the differences in personal values, educational backgrounds, and cultural perspectives of different teachers, the level of comprehensive quality of teachers in colleges and universities in ethnic areas has not yet realized a balanced development. We claim that it is necessary to establish a sound long-term mechanism for cross-ethnic cultural training led by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China, develop intercultural and multicultural cooperation, and build an ethnic cultural exchange platform to deepen the knowledge and understanding of the differences in the elements of ethnic cultures, to help improve the cultural sensitivity of the teachers, and to promote the construction of the comprehensive quality of the teaching force.
