Case report describes diagnostic challenges and implications of ancient schwannoma in the parotid gland.
A BSTRACT Schwannoma also known as neurilemmoma is a rare entity in the parotid gland region of the head and neck (0.2–1.5%). It is a slow-growing, well-circumscribed, painless tumor. Diagnosis is usually difficult before surgery as it can clinically mimic pleomorphic adenoma with patient complaining of a gradual painless swelling with or without facial nerve involvement. Immunohistochemical evaluation can be done to confirm the histomorphological diagnosis. Due to their rare nature and uncommon presentation, understanding the histopathological features and clinical implications of ancient schwannomas is crucial for accurate diagnosis and timely management of patient. Here, we describe a rare case report in a 39-year-old man with a parotid swelling.
