Bibliographic analysis reveals taxonomic impacts of Millet's work on insect classifications, suggesting significant oversight.
Bibliographic peregrinations in the work of the Angevin naturalist Pierre-Aimé Millet (1783-1873) and taxonomic implications (Insecta, Hemiptera and Orthoptera). Pierre-Aimé Millet’s work was important for our knowledge of the natural heritage of western France in the 19th century, particularly in the Maine-et-Loire department. Two Hemiptera taxa described by this author in 1850 have nevertheless fallen into oblivion, and the taxonomic implications of this oversight are discussed. Aphrophora bipunctata Millet, 1850 (nomen oblitum) is placed in synonymy with A. major Uhler, 1896 (nomen protectum), which does not entail any change of name for A. bipunctata Melichar, 1902 (Aphrophoridae). Delphax variegatus Millet, 1850 is placed in synonymy with Stenocranus longipennis (Curtis, 1837) (Delphacidae). Finally, a correction is also made to the year of description of Decticus gratiosus Millet, 1865 (Orthoptera, Tettigoniidae).
