Off-grid communities in Kenya face significant challenges accessing reliable electricity sources, leading to limited economic opportunities and social development. A scoping review methodology was employed to synthesize existing literature on the evaluation of off-grid community systems. The review aimed at identifying, selecting, and synthesizing studies that utilised various methods for measuring system efficiency gains. The analysis revealed a mixed pattern of results from different methodologies used in evaluating off-grid systems' performance, with some showing substantial efficiency improvements over time. While the randomized field trial provided insights into the effectiveness of certain evaluation techniques, further empirical studies are needed to validate these findings and identify best practices for measuring system efficiencies. Recommendation for future research includes conducting more extensive randomized trials with larger sample sizes and a wider range of methodologies to ensure robust conclusions. off-grid systems, Kenya, field trial evaluation, methodological assessment Model estimation used =argmin_ᵢ (yᵢ, f_ (xᵢ) ) +₂², with performance evaluated using out-of-sample error.
