Case report describes lingual nerve injury in a patient using I-gel, highlighting safety concerns for anaesthesiologists.
Lingual nerve injury is a potential but rare complication of using a supraglottic airway device. This case report describes a female patient who developed numbness at the tip of the tongue after using the I‐gel supraglottic airway device and analyses the possible mechanisms of lingual nerve damage following the usage of a cuffless supraglottic device, I‐gel. The purpose of this case report is to create awareness among the anaesthesiologists about this complication to improve patient safety and communication.
