Key Points

  • To investigate the relationship between short-form video use and mental health outcomes.
  • Conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis
  • Analyzed various studies on short-form video usage
  • Examined associations with mental health outcomes
  • Found a significant association between short-form video use and negative mental health outcomes
  • Suggested a need for objective measurement instruments to understand usage patterns
  • Identified gaps in geographical diversity and study design for future research

Abstract

This meta-analysis suggests that SFV use is associated with adverse mental health outcomes. Future research should use objective measurement instruments to capture contemporary SFV usage patterns and differentiate between distinct types of engagement. Additionally, studies with greater geographical diversity and longitudinal or experimental designs are needed to establish causality and examine temporal changes in these associations.
