18F-FDG PET-CT detects rare inferior vena cava tumor thrombus secondary to lung carcinoma adrenal metastasis.
Why the study?
IVC tumor thrombus is very rare in cases of lung carcinoma despite adrenal metastases being common.
Highlights the utility of 18 F-FDG PET-CT in detecting rare IVC tumor thrombi arising from lung carcinoma adrenal metastases.
May warrant 18F-FDG PET-CT evaluation for rare IVC thrombi in adrenal metastases from lung cancer; extends imaging literature but should not yet change practice.
Adrenal metastasis is common in cases of lung carcinoma, with an incidence ranging from 3% to 7.6%. Many solid tumors have complication of tumor thrombus in IVC. It is very rare to see IVC tumor thrombus in cases of lung carcinoma. We report a case in which adrenal metastasis from lung cancer caused tumor thrombus in IVC, which was detected on 18 F-FDG PET-CT.
