Experiment assesses the impact of relative distance magnification on accommodation, suggesting significant measurement differences.
Many factors influence the measurement of the amplitude of accommodation. One factor that is frequently stated to have a major effect, the increase in the retinal image size as the target approaches the eye, has not previously been separated statistically from the other influences. In this experiment, the effect of relative distance magnification on the amplitude is assessed by comparing Dander's push‐up technique with a Badal optometer technique. The push‐up method indicates 0.6 D more amplitude of accommodation than the Badal method for subjects between ages 32 and 40.
