Investigative survey identifies educational impact on sustainable practices and crop yields in rural areas.
Sustainable agriculture practices are crucial for rural communities in Burkina Faso to mitigate climate-induced challenges such as erratic rainfall patterns and soil degradation. A mixed-methods approach including semi-structured interviews and community surveys was employed to gather data from 120 households in selected villages across Burkina Faso. Findings indicated that 75% of respondents practiced rainwater harvesting, primarily for irrigation purposes, which significantly improved their crop yields by 30%. However, education levels were found to be a critical factor influencing the adoption rate of sustainable practices. The study highlights the importance of community engagement and educational programmes in promoting sustainable agricultural practices and rainwater harvesting among rural communities in Burkina Faso. Policy makers should prioritise funding for education and infrastructure development that supports sustainable agriculture and water management in rural areas of Burkina Faso.
