This analysis reveals improved durability and structural integrity in retrofitted concrete beams using GFRP, highlighting a cost-effective solution.
This study investigates the structural performance enhancement of concrete beams through retrofitting with Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) composites. Using CATIA software, a concrete beam design is created, both in its conventional solid form and in its retrofitted state with GFRP. Ansys software is employed for structural analysis to evaluate the beam's behavior under different loading conditions. Results demonstrate that the retrofitted concrete beam with GFRP exhibits significantly higher stress resistance and rigidity compared to the conventional concrete beam. This increased durability and strength stem from the inherent properties of GFRP, including its lightweight nature and high corrosion resistance. By retrofitting with GFRP, the lifespan of the concrete beam is extended, leading to improved structural integrity and reduced maintenance needs. Moreover, the retrofitting process with GFRP allows for seamless integration with existing building structures without causing damage. Overall, the use of GFRP composites in retrofitting concrete beams not only enhances their mechanical properties but also offers a sustainable and cost-effective solution for extending the lifespan of structures while minimizing environmental impact.
