In India, the National Education Policy 2020 proposed the Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) which integrates disciplinary knowledge, pedagogy and competencies within a four-year multidisciplinary framework. In its realm, Artificial Intelligence (AI) emerged as one of the most transformative and powerful tools with the potential to reshape pedagogical practices, assessment strategies, and competency development in the field of teacher education. This article explains how AI enabled tools such as adaptive learning systems, intelligent tutoring, learning analytics, and automated assessment can enhance personalized learning, reflective practice, and evidence-based decision-making in teacher education. It also highlights various challenges associated with AI integration and the data privacy concerns. By aligning AI applications with the ITEP, the article argues that AI can ultimately contribute to the development of a more inclusive, equitable, reflective, and future-oriented teachers with humanistic and ethical values and skills. Finally, the article concludes with strategic recommendations for teacher educators, institutions, and policymakers to develop a comprehensive framework that ensures its proper usage in spite of challenges to effectively harness AI for.
