A series of charge transfer cocrystals of anthracene with benzofurazan and benzofuroxans derivatives was obtained. The ratio of components in cocrystals is determined by hydrogen bonding and dipole-dipole interactions in acceptor subsystem. In case of 4,6-dichloro-5-nitrobenzofuroxan and 4-chloro-7-nitrobenzofurazan cocrystals, acceptor-acceptor interactions are stronger than π–π interactions with anthracene, thus resulting in 1 : 2 donor–acceptor ratio in cocrystals. The value of charge transfer in anthracene/4,6-dichloro-5-nitrobenzofuroxan complex was estimated to be about 0.27e. The acceptors and their complexes were characterized by electrochemistry and UV/Vis spectroscopy.
