In recent years, in the field of transportation equipment such as automobiles and aircraft, there is a demand for reducing the weight of vehicle bodies as a measure to save energy. Magnesium alloys are the lightest metals among practical metals. However, compared to steel, they have issues with wear resistance and corrosion resistance. In the present study, the surface of Mg alloys was modified using shot lining, a dissimilar material joining method that applies shot peening. The metal sheet laminated with heat-resistant resin and hard ceramics was joined to Mg alloy substrate to improve the surface properties. Warm working was performed to improve the joining properties. Test materials used were AZ31 alloy as the substrate, and pure aluminum, pure copper, pure titanium, and pure nickel as the metal thin sheets. The dissimilar materials were heterogeneous materials laminated with resin and ceramics. The corrosion resistance and wear resistance were investigated. The surface properties of Mg alloys were improved by the proposed SL process.
