Analysis reveals how microstructure influences properties of metal matrix composites, indicating design improvements.
In the development of metal matrix composites, it is important to clarify the relationship between the process, structure, and properties. Furthermore, in recent years, the emergence of new material processes has increased the freedom of material design. On the other hand, it is important to analyze the morphology of the additives and base material that change during material processing, as well as the microstructure of the base phase itself, to clarify the relationship with the mechanical and physical properties. Here, I will introduce, as examples, the effect of carbon surfaces on the reactivity with aluminum, composite design using the ARB method, which is a severe processing method, and analysis of the importance of structure in composites using AI.
