Proposes a new method for modeling initial crack geometry in cohesive crack propagation analysis, suggesting advancements in numerical methods for engineering applications.
The author has previously developed a three-dimensional XFEM (extended finite element method) code that can define three-dimensional planar crack geometry independently of finite elements, and has applied it to stationary crack analysis, fatigue crack propagation analysis, and cohesive crack analysis. In this study, a method to consider the initial crack geometry independently of finite elements in cohesive crack propagation analysis is proposed, and this function is implemented in the existing developed code. This paper provides an overview of the proposed method and shows an example of a numerical analysis for a cracked beam problem subjected to three-point bending load.
