This study presents the development and evaluation of a novel additive manufacturing system utilizing a slant direct-drive parallel mechanism (SDPM) for multi-layer fabrication on curved surfaces without the use of support structures. The system enables six degrees of freedom motion control of the modeling stage, allowing precise material deposition onto complex geometries. Through experiments involving the fabrication of a solid structure on a convex cylindrical base, the feasibility and effectiveness of support-free curved surface modeling were demonstrated. The results indicate successful fabrication on one side of the structure, while deformation was observed on the opposite side. Further analysis will be conducted to identify the cause of deformation and enhance modeling accuracy. This research contributes to the advancement of non-planar additive manufacturing techniques by integrating high-precision motion control and curved surface modeling.
