The effect of the death of a professional athlete on his financial rights arising from the contract

It is no longer a secret to anyone the importance of professionalism in the sports field, which today has taken a legal form linking the sports professional to those who wish to obtain his services. This form is represented by the professional sports contract, which links the professional athlete to the sports institution for which the Iraqi Sports Professionalism Law No. (60) for the year 2017 was drawn up and regulated the contract arranges corresponding obligations owed by both parties, including the financial obligation of the sports institution. This obligation represents a right for the professional athlete. This financial right is inevitably affected by the death of the professional athlete, which requires examining the impact of that death on the professional’s financial rights arising from the contract. In various legal topics, the topic is not a subject of controversy or consideration if it is organized in a precise and correct manner that puts an end to interpretations and assumptions. With the issuance of the Sports Professionalism Law in 2017, those interested were optimistic.
