An irrigation system automates water management in plants, indicating improved water-use efficiency and growth health.
The Autonomous Soil Moisture-Based Irrigation System offers an intelligent and efficient approach to automating water management plant growth. It removes the need for manual monitoring by continuously measuring the soil’s volumetric water content and supplying only the required amount of water. The system’s microcontroller processes real-time data from the soil moisture sensor and evaluates it against a predefined threshold. When the moisture level drops below this value, the controller activates a water pump through a relay module. Irrigation continues only until the soil reaches the ideal moisture range preventing both overwatering and moisture deficiency. The primary goal of this system is to maximize water-use efficiency (WUE) while supporting healthier plant growth. By integrating low-cost embedded hardware with principles of precision agriculture, the system offers a reliable and economical solution suitable for home gardens, small farms, and greenhouse environments. Overall, this automation helps conserve water, reduces human effort, and provides an eco-friendly approach to addressing modern irrigation challenges.
