Thermokinetics reveals a first-order reaction for H2O2 decomposition, indicating its efficiency as a time-measuring method.
In this paper, we describe a temperature based determination of the kinetics of the H2O2 decomposition using the integrated rate method. The reagents (total volume 5 mL) are added to a micro-calorimeter and the temperature (T) – time (t) data set is collected using a temperature sensor and a datalogger. The order of reaction with respect to H2O2 is 1 and the order of reaction with respect to iodide is also 1. The average rate constant reported by students is 0.0121 ± 0.0005 M-1s-1(N= 8).
