Abstract

Objectives: This review aimed to synthesize current evidence on environmental sustainability in orthodontic practice and identify strategies to reduce ecological impact. Methods: Multiple databases were searched for literature published between 2005 and 2025. Studies addressing orthodontic materials, waste management, and eco-friendly alternatives were included. Results: Major environmental contributors included single-use plastics, aligner waste, traditional impressions, and clinic energy consumption. Digital workflows, biodegradable materials, and recycling initiatives demonstrated promising sustainability benefits. Conclusions: Integrating sustainable practices into orthodontic workflows is feasible and essential for reducing environmental burden while maintaining treatment quality.
