An in vitro study compares accuracy of digital versus visual shade matching in restorative dentistry, suggesting improved outcomes.
Objectives: This study aimed to compare shade-matching accuracy and reliability between conventional shade guides and a digital intraoral scanner system. Methods: Extracted maxillary anterior teeth were assessed using VITA Classical, VITA 3D-Master shade guides, and 3Shape TRIOS scanner. Inter- and intra-examiner reliability were evaluated using Cohen’s kappa statistics. Results: Digital shade matching demonstrated higher consistency and reliability compared to visual assessment methods. Conclusions: Intraoral scanners may improve shade-matching accuracy and clinical reproducibility in restorative dentistry.
