Comparative study reveals texture estimation differences in Nd-Dy-Fe-B magnets, suggesting improved accuracy with EBSD method.
A comparative study was carried out of the texture of Nd-Dy-Fe-B permanent magnets with different average powder particle sizes using four methods: two magnetic methods (comparison with an isotropic sample and the Fernengel method), X-ray diffraction, and the electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) method. It was found that the EBSD method yields the lowest texture estimates, while demonstrating good agreement with the X-ray diffraction method. The highest texture values were obtained using the isotropic sample comparison method, and the data from both magnetic methods are in good agreement. For fundamental research and the search for ways to improve the actual texture and magnetic properties, the authors recommend using the more accurate EBSD structural method.
