Theoretical analysis reveals steady state behavior in binary copper alloys during high-pressure torsion, suggesting improved deformation efficiency.
In this work the special case of Bauschinger effect is theoretically analyzed. In case of Bauschinger effect the resistance of a material against plastic deformation is reduced after the preliminary straining of opposite sign. For this purpose the behavior of binary Cu-based solid solutions during high pressure torsion (HPT) has been theoretically analyzed. It is known that during HPT of the binary Cu-based solid solutions the steady state appeared after certain number of plunger rotation. In this work using the phenomenological Landau theory the model for the sample behavior during alternating straining has been developed. The decomposition of HPT torsion torque into linear and non-linear components permitted to determine the inputs of elastic and plastic deformations. It is important to understand how the transition takes place to the steady state in the dynamic equilibrium between the processes of defect formation and elimination. It has been demonstrated that using the Bauschinger effect it is possible to reach the steady state at the much lower number of plunger rotation.
