Monte Carlo simulations reveal complex magnetic structures in a clock model with five spin states, suggesting intricate interactions.
Using the Monte Carlo method based on the replica-exchange algorithm and the Wang–Landau algorithm, the magnetic and thermodynamic properties of the clock model with the number of spin states q = 5 on a triangular lattice have been investigated. The ground state magnetic structures of this model have been obtained for various values of the antiferromagnetic exchange interaction between second-nearest neighbors J. The dependence of the ground state energy on the J value has been studied. It has been established that the competition of exchange interactions in the model under consideration leads to a change in the ground state magnetic structure, degeneracy, and complex phase behavior.
