A methodology detects anomalous marine environment characteristics, indicating zoning potential for vast ocean areas.
A methodology of complex analysis of long-term time series of distributions of informative parameters of the aquatic environment, determined by satellite data, for physically-substantiated zoning of vast marine areas is proposed and tested. The methodology is based on an approach that combines the capabilities of statistical, correlation, and regression analysis, as well as principal component analysis and self-organizing classification of heterogeneous data. The features of zones with abnormal dynamics of marine environment parameters (sea surface temperature, sea ice concentration, sea surface level and salinity with a retrospective depth of ~30–40 years) have been identified and analyzed for the waters near the Kamchatka Peninsula, in the Barents Sea, as well as in the Atlantic Antarctic using the results of processing and analyzing daily satellite and model data. The research results demonstrated the efficiency of the proposed methodology in solving the problems of detecting areas of the seas and oceans characterized by an atypical regime of interannual variability of the physical characteristics of the marine environment for the region under consideration.
